Deja de intentar tan intensamente ser “alguien” para ella. Deja de doblarte tanto para ser “alguien” para los demás: la persona que necesitan, la persona que quieren, la persona que siempre han estado esperando.
¡BASTA!
No se puede. Lo he intentado. Me he sacado las tripas tratando de ser todo para los demás, y me he perdido. Ese ha sido el único resultado.
NO. ES. POSIBLE.
Igual que no es posible respirar fuera del planeta sin un traje espacial
—tus células se perderán en las estrellas separándose unas de otras inevitablemente—
pues ser todo para todo el mundo acaba igual.
Y me da curiosidad…
¿Quién serías si no fueras todo para todo el mundo: una salvadora? ¿Sin tener que hacerlo todo para los demás? ¿Sin tener que ser la héroe?
¿Quedaría algo de ti?
Ser todo para el mundo entero no es tu verdadero yo.
¿Estarías dispuesta a probar algo más?
¿Dejarías que otr@s crecieran gracias a sus luchas sin tener que rescatarlos?
¿Dejarías que fueran los héroes de sus propias vidas?
¿Eso da miedo tal vez?
Porque entonces, ¿quién serías?
¿¿¿Quién serías…???
¿Qué fue lo que dejaste de hacer para ser la persona que pensabas que alguien más quería que fueras?
¿En qué momento y cómo te abandonaste?
¿De qué te alejaste dentro de ti misma?
¿Qué fue lo que tus padres no te permitieron hacer y tuviste que rescatar a otros para darle sentido a quien eras? ¿Para asignarte un propósito?
Si no tuvieras que rescatar, ¿quién serías?
¿Qué expresarías?
La autoexpresión es el verdadero yo que sale de las sombras.
Así es como las sombras llegan a la luz y se convierten en luz.
¿Quién serías tú para ti misma?
¿Qué expresarías?
¿Qué no tendrías miedo de hacer o ser?
Una vez escuché que “la cueva que más temes guarda el tesoro que más deseas”. **
Sigue a tus tripas.
Tus tripas nunca mienten.
Tu identidad no la tiene alguien más. Está dentro de la cueva.
Toma. Aquí está mi pluma.
Nos encontraremos al otro lado.

Letter to myself 10 years ago

Stop trying to be “someone” for her. Stop trying to bend yourself to be someone for others—the person they need, the person they want, the person they have always been waiting for.
STOP!
It can’t be done. I’ve tried. I’ve turned my guts inside-out trying to be everything for others, and I have just lost myself. That has been the only result.
IT. IS. NOT. POSSIBLE.
The same it is not possible to breathe outside of the planet without a spacesuit. Your cells will float apart inevitably in seconds.
Being all for all does the same thing.
And I wonder …
Who would you be if you were not an all for all? A rescuer? Without having to do everything for others? Without having to be a hero?
Would there be something left of you?
Being everything for the whole world is not your true self.
Would you be willing to try something else?
Would you let others grow through their struggles without rescuing them? Letting them be the heroes of their own lives?
Is that scary?
Who would you be then?
Who would you be … ???
What was it that you stopped doing to be the person you thought someone else wanted you to be?
When and how did you abandon yourself?
What did you walk away from inside yourself?
What is it that your parents didn’t allow you to do, and you had to rescue others to make sense of who you were, to give yourself a purpose?
If you wouldn’t have to rescue, who would you be?
What would you express?
Self-expression is the true self coming out of the shadow.
It is how the shadow comes into the sunlight and turns into the sunlight.
Who would you be for yourself?
What would you express?
What wouldn’t you be afraid to do or be?
I once heard that the “cave you most fear holds the treasure you most want.” **
Follow your gut.
Your gut will never lie.
No one else holds your identity. You will find it in the cave.
Here is my pen.
We’ll meet on the other side.
